The Alliance for Community Transformations provides responsive and preventative services to individuals and families, and works through partnerships and collective action to create truly safe, healthy and socially just communities where every member thrives.
The Alliance was founded in 1990 under the name of Mountain Crisis Services, an agency working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Mariposa County. As the agency grew and expanded to include different programs, we decided that a new name would better fit the work of our programs and our vision for our communities.
Based in Mariposa and Merced Counties, there are eight programs that help us achieve our mission: Mountain Crisis Services, Valley Crisis Center, Ethos Youth Center, Mariposa Heritage House, CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates) of Mariposa, Mariposa Family Resource Center, CHAN-BOF and Connections emergency shelter.
The Alliance are grounded in safety, advocacy, and empowerment for individuals and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence. Valley Crisis Center and Mountain Crisis Services—two locations, one shared mission—provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed services, including shelter, crisis intervention, legal advocacy, and prevention education. Together, we work to break cycles of abuse, raise awareness through community outreach, and create systemic change that promotes healing, justice, and long-term safety.
The Alliance includes Connections, an emergency shelter that links individuals in housing crisis with supportive services to end homelessness, and Mariposa Heritage House, a peer-led recovery hub offering counseling, training, and vital resources in a safe, empowering environment. Through strategic partnerships and compassionate care, we help individuals and families stabilize, heal, and rebuild their lives with dignity.
The Alliance, Youth & Families programming includes ETHOS Youth Center, which empowers youth through creativity, leadership, and belonging; CASA of Mariposa, where trained volunteers advocate for children in the foster care system; and the Mariposa Family Resource Center, which provides support, education, and tools to help families thrive and build strong, resilient futures together. CHAN-BOF works to end gender-based violence by shifting cultural norms in the HMong and underserved communities.
